One dead, three badly hurt in Rotherham house inferno

A MAN was killed and a woman and two children were seriously injured in a Rotherham house fire.

Firefighters from Rotherham and Dearne fire stations found the man in a downstairs room of the property on Wagon Road, Greasbrough, at around 12.45am on Saturday.

The woman and children, a girl aged six and a boy aged three, were found upstairs.

They were rushed to hospital but were left in a serious condition following the blaze.

An investigation by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue revealed that the fire had been started by a cooker in the kitchen.

The incident is being described as “accidental.”

Mick Mason, from the fire service, described the inside of the semi-detached house as a “scene of devastation.”

He added: “The kitchen’s totally gutted and there’s quite severe smoke damage to the rest of the premises.”
