Old folk flee Rotherham care home blaze

ELDERLY and vulnerable residents had to be evacuated from parts of a residential care home when fire broke out in the early hours.

Fire fighters from Maltby and Aston fire stations were called to the Silverwood Care Home, on Flanderwell Lane, Flanderwell, at 12.50am on Saturday morning.

They tackled a blaze in the building’s kitchen, where they were able to contain the fire.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Some of the care home’s residents had already been evacuated to another part of the building when crews arrived.

“There was a great deal of smoke but the incident was contained in the kitchens and nobody was injured in the incident.”

Fire crews recorded the fire as accidental before leaving at 1.25am.
