Offenders flee police and abandon van after break-in at retail park

OFFENDERS stole “high value clothing” after breaking into a sports store before their getaway vehicle collided with parked vehicles and they abandoned the van to flee the scene on foot.

Police are hunting the three offenders who struck at the JD Sports Store in Brampton Bierlow in the early hours of this morning (Monday).

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “We received a report just before 1.10am this morning (May 30) that three unknown offenders had broken into the JD sports store at Cortonwood Retail Park, taking a number of high value clothing items.

“They left the scene in a silver van which was pursued by officers.

“The van failed to stop for officers and collided with parked vehicles before being abandoned on High Street.

“The three suspects have then left the scene on foot.

“The van was recovered with clothing in the back believed to be from the burglary.

“Officers are continuing with enquiries and anybody with information should contact the police on 101 quoting incident number 0047 of May 30.”
