A PENSIONER who has been married for 43 years was threatened with a knife and had his wedding ring stolen.

Police are investigating the incident, which took place in the Mexborough area at around 10.20pm on Sunday, April 29.

The victim was walking along High Street when he was approached by a man who reportedly grabbed hold of him, threatening him with a knife and taking him to the cashpoint on Main Street where he withdrew £200, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said.

The offender then took the man's wedding ring before leaving the area, heading towards Lower Dolcliffe Road.

He is described as being in his 20s, of a slim build, 6ft tall and wearing a hat and a mask over his face.

PC Rachel Young, who is investigating the incident, said: “Thankfully, the man wasn’t injured in the incident but he has understandably been left incredibly distressed and upset by what happened.

“After 43 years of marriage, he’s never been without his wedding ring and I’d like to ask anyone who has recently been offered a gold wedding band for sale to contact us.

“I’d also like to ask anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1124 of April 29.
