A MENTAL health nurse at Rotherham police was praised for his support of a teenager whose parents have both died during the pandemic.
Dan Kirk visited the 18-year-old, who lost his dad to coronavirus and then his mother to suicide weeks later.
The time spent with the teen led to him engaging with the wider team and a mental health social worker was allocated.
Chief Supt Steve Chapman, Rotherham’s district commander, said: “The nurse visited the young man to ensure he was supported through this crisis. He spent several hours providing much-needed support.
“Had the safer neighbourhood service not intervened in this way, professionals are very confident the outcome to date would have been much different. The future is looking more positive for this young man.”
Mr Kirk’s role is also to improve officer understanding of mental health among the district’s officers.
