No time limits on High Street cycling

CYCLING will be permitted at all times on High Street and Frederick Street in Rotherham town centre, under new proposals.

RMBC is seeking public feedback on the idea, which is part of public realm improvements and a wider effort to improve cycling infrastructure.

Cllr Dominic Beck, cabinet member for transport, said: “Cycling and walking provide low-cost travel, improve health and wellbeing and help protect the environment, so investing in active travel creates lasting benefits for everyone.

“However, we need people’s feedback to ensure we are doing this in the best way for local residents, visitors and businesses, and I urge people to look at the proposals and take part in the consultations.”

Funding would be from the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund, which awarded South Yorkshire £166 million in March 2020.

Consultation is open at www.rotherham.gov.uk/consultations until February 13.
