Changes in the past have included the removal of the second engine at Rotherham station pump at night in 2013, and the introduction in 2017 of time targets for firefighters to arrive at emergencies.

But the new plan — covering 2021 to 2024 — was approved on January 10 by the area’s fire authority without consultation.

Deputy chief fire officer Chris Kirby said: “The consultation last time around was when we changed from the situation where we endeavour to arrive at each emergency as quick as possible to introducing a new suite of response times that we are then going to monitor within the service.

“There’s no specific proposals with this.”

SYFR said the name of the document was changed to reflect best national practice.
