No guarantees for Rotherham United red-card winger Chiedozie Ogbene

The 22-year-old terrorised Accrington Stanley with his searing pace last Saturday but may struggle to find a quick way back after being sent off late on when he received a second yellow card.

Ogbene is banned for this weekend's trip to MK Dons when the sixth-placed Millers will attempt to consolidate their place in the League One play-off frame.

"Chieo is a very intelligent lad," manager Paul Warne said. "He'll understand that he's pulled himself out of the team for MK Dons and it's next man up.

"If the next person comes in and performs well then Chieo will have to sit and watch until the other person doesn't perform."

Replays showed that Ogbene was unlucky to be cautioned for simulation in the 82nd minute after earlier being booked by referee Darren Handley for tugging an opponent's shirt.

Rotherham are monitoring 'number 10' Matt Crooks in training this week. The eight-goal top scorer played in the 1-0 win over Accrington but wasn't at his best.

"Crooksy's struggling a little bit with his groins,” Warne said. “His movement wasn't as free last Saturday."

Meanwhile, left-back/winger Trevor Clarke has remained with the Millers rather than join up with the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad even though he has recovered from the ankle injury which initially meant he couldn't answer his country's call.

Clarke missed the Republic's 1-0 victory in Armenia last Thursday in a European U-21 Championship qualifying tie but there was a chance he would fly out for tonight's home qualifier against Sweden.

The Republic decided at the weekend that the youngster could continue training with his club.

The match against the Swedes is being played at Tallaght Stadium, which was Clarke's home arena when he was with Shamrock Rovers, and Warne would have been happy for his player to travel to South Dublin

"I reckon he'd like to go over there and play in front of his family at the ground he used to play at," said the boss after the Accrington triumph.

"He's fit to play. If he represents his country on Tuesday night I'll be buzzing for him."

Clarke was given permission by the Republic to be in the Rotherham squad for the Stanley match and was an unused sub.
