The winger didn't make the squad for the 2-0 Championship home win over Bristol City but the Millers are hoping he will be available for Wednesday night's trip to Blackburn Rovers.

"He didn't feel great," said coach Matt Hamshaw after goals from Matt Crooks and Michael Smith had increased he gap between 20th-placed Rotherham and the drop zone to three point.

"It's not Covid or anything. He's just off it. He has a sore throat so we would like to think he will be back with the group at the start of the week."

It's understood that the player was tested for coronavirus and that the result was negative.

Rotherham turned in their best performance of the season to see off the Robins and Hamshaw praised wing-back Matt Olosunde who couldn't force his way into the starting 11 at the start of the campaign but was arguably Man of the Match against City.

"He could have had a penalty and he set up the second goal," the coach said. "He was one of many good performers. Michael Smith led the line very well, Vass was excellent until he came off and so were the midfield three.

"Matt was very good, but all the team were excellent and showed us what they are capable of."

With a packed fixture schedule, the Millers have been unable to savour beating a side that had arrived at AESSEAL New York Stadium in sixth spot.

"It's hard to enjoy it too much with this run of games," Hamshaw said. "Our attention turns to Blackburn. We have already started watching their games.

"They played Bristol City in midweek last week so we will study that and get ready for a big game on Wednesday."
