'Nightmare' stabbing attack on boxer Gwyn

THE FATHER of a popular boxer stabbed several times during a daylight attack described seeing his son fighting for his life as “every parent’s worst nightmare.”

Mick Wale (49), was first on the scene after receiving a call from son Gwyn telling him he had been attacked.

The 27-year-old father-of-one, of Becknoll Road, Brampton, suffered multiple stab wounds in an incident just yards from his own home.

Mick, who was helped by Gwyn’s brother Josh, said: “I was able to give him first aid as I’m a professional boxing trainer so I need to know that for my work.

“I’ve seen bloody noses before in the gym but nothing like this. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare and to see your son like that, fighting for his life, really was emotional.”

Gwyn was building a wall for a neighbour at the time of the attack, which happened at around 3.45pm last Thursday.

He was taken to the intensive care unit at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield following the incident, but returned home to his family on Wednesday.
