Newman School in running for prestige prize

A SPECIALIST school will find out later this week if it is the best of its kind in the country.

Newman School, on East Bawtry Road, Rotherham, has fought off hundreds of schools nationwide to earn its place amongst the final six schools in the running to win the Outstanding Special School of the Year Award 2011 at the prestigious Times Education Supplement Schools Awards (TESSAs).

The awards,  at London’s Park Lane Hilton, aim to celebrate the “inspirational work” going on in schools across the country, highlighting those schools which consistently push the boundaries of innovative learning.

The Oustanding Special School of the Year Award is presented to the school that has improved the most over the past academic year in terms of exam results, Ofsted reports and parental feedback.

Last year, Newman School was rated as “outstanding” in its Ofsted report, with the inspectors calling children’s learning experiences “exceptional”.
