New Year’s Day murder victim named as Fatjon Oruci

Police have named the New Year’s Day murder victim who died after an “incident of violent disorder” in a Rotherham street.

POLICE have named the New Year’s Day murder victim who died after an “incident of violent disorder” in a Rotherham street as Fatjon Oruci. 

The 22-year-old from London suffered “catastrophic injuries as a result of beating”, and had also been stabbed, the post-mortem found.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said there would be “a continued police presence and activities over the coming days”, as enquiries continued. 

Mr Oruci was found unconscious on Doncaster Road at about 1.20am on Saturday and later pronounced dead at the scene. 

Officers also attended Badsley Moor Lane in relation to an incident of public disorder. 

On Saturday afternoon, a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested in London on suspicion of murder and were released under investigation while enquiries continue.

A 23-year-old man from Rotherham was then arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday.

He has since been released from custody with no further action taken due to a lack of evidence.

The police spokesperson said: “The family of Fatjon have been made aware and are being supported by specially-trained officers at this time.

“Enquiries are continuing at pace, and there will be a continued police presence and activities over the coming days." 

Detectives still want to hear from anyone who has any information which may help with the investigation.

They are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious between 11pm last Friday and 2am on Saturday in the area of either Badsley Moor Lane or Doncaster Road.
