New Year’s baby waits for 2020 to end

A MUM who gave birth to one of Rotherham’s first babies of the new year reckons her son arrived late as he was waiting to get a coronavirus-ridden 2020 out of the way.

Lyndsay Frost welcomed third child Albie William Frost-Meese into the world at 2.47pm on New Year’s Day, weighing a whopping 9lb 10ozs.

The 33-year-old of Wickersley, said: “We had no idea he would turn up on New Year’s Day.

“It’s a lovely birthday for him to have - but we think Albie was just waiting to get 2020 out of the way!”

Albie now joins dad Scott Meese (30) and siblings Mason (6) and Megan (14).

Throughout the festive period, three babies were born at Rotherham Hospital on Christmas Day - two boys and one girl - and eight new arrivals came into the world on New Year’s Day - - four girls and four boys.

Natalie Humphrey, lead midwife on the labour ward at Rotherham Hospital, said it was always a pleasure to welcome newborns into the world at such a special time of year for many families.

She added: “This year has been long and hard for many people and it is heart-warming to celebrate the new year with the start of new life. We wish all our festive families the best for the year ahead and look forward to meeting more 2021 Rotherham babies.”
