New rules for landlords come into force on Monday
HOUSES in multiple occupation (HMOs) will need licences from Monday (1), Rotherham Borough Council has reminded landlords.
It follows a Government decision earlier this year on rented properties occupied by five or more people — regardless of the number of storeys.
HMOs have become increasingly popular in the borough and landlords have until April to apply for their licence.

Hide AdIt costs £824 for five years — and landlords flouting the new rules will face prosecution and fines of up to £30,000.
Cllr Dominic Beck, cabinet member for housing, said: “This new change in the law reflects the importance society is putting on the safety of rented housing.”
