New Rotherham United deal for skipper Richard Wood

CAPTAIN Richard Wood will spend another year with Rotherham United after finalising a contract extension.

The 35-year-old, the Millers' longest-serving player, has been a key men in the club's battle for Championship survival this season and has played enough matches to activate a clause in his previous agreement.

He has signed a one-year deal that will keep him at AESSEAL New York Stadium until the summer of 2022.

The two-goal Wembley hero of Rotherham's 2018 League One Play-off Final win over Shrewsbury Town says he intends to play on until he is 40 if he can.

Centre-half Wood, who began his career at Sheffield Wednesday, joined the Millers from Charlton Athletic in 2014.

He has played more the 150 games since then and is closing in on 600 career appearances.
