New job for former Rotherham children's services chief Ian Thomas

FORMER Rotherham children’s services chief Ian Thomas is taking on his third council job in eight months — six weeks after leaving the last one.

Mr Thomas (pictured) left Lewisham Council in late October, only seven months after stepping into the role.

Now he has been lined up to be chief executive of Kingston-upon-Thames Council, subject to approval by councillors.

Mr Thomas was brought in by Rotherham Borough Council in January 2015 as strategic director for children and young people’s services as part of its response to the child sexual exploitation scandal.

But he quit earlier this year to join Lewisham Council — only to leave his post there when the council opted to “take a new direction” under new mayor Damien Egan.

Mr Thomas said of his latest appointment: “I am incredibly excited about heading up the staff team at [Kingston], a vibrant outer London borough, with such a rich heritage.

“The leader Liz Green and her administration have ambitious plans to work in collaboration with all stakeholders, to create a place where everyone can thrive.

“Having had the privilege of meeting an impressive selection of members, officers and partners, I am looking forward to being part of a movement, which will see the development of a better Kingston for all residents and visitors.”
