New homes plan for Manvers

A PLAN for 62 waterside homes has been submitted—part of a development masterplan for Manvers.

Applicant Harron Homes is asking for permission to build the residential apartments and houses, south of the Old Moor bird sanctuary near Wath.

It will also include space for retail, food and drink facilities, a medical centre and leisure and play spaces off Manvers Way.

A design and access statement, submitted to Rotherham Borough Council, said: “These proposals have been developed over many months in response to the context, site constraints and latest design guidance.

“We have worked in conjunction with the local authority and refinements have been made to the scheme in order to overcome initial concerns.

“The existing housing in the vicinity of the site caries in character and style and tends to be high density townhouses in the majority of cases.

“This development will offer a range of high quality yet affordable family homes to suit a wide range of purchasers which will complement the current housing stock in the area.

“By following sound urban design principles, the development will deliver a safe, attractive and sustainable environment that people will be proud of and want to respect and inhabit for many years to come.”

The project is the latest phase in the Express Park Rotherham project to build more than 380 homes, old people’s accommodation, sports venue, bingo, bowling, restaurants and a pub on the 285-hectare site.

The plan is expected to go before the planning board on October 25.
