New era opens for mothballed Maltby pit

Heavy equipment auctioneer Ritchie Bros is moving its UK HQ from Donington in east Midlands to the site, with the first bids due to be made at the end of next month.

MOTHBALLED Maltby pit is set for a new life as an open-air auction house.

Ritchie Bros’ auctions for vehicles including diggers, trucks and tractors are attended by bidders from around the world in person and online.

Rupert Craven, the firm’s UK sales director, said: “We're extremely proud and excited about moving to this new, unique location.

“The Maltby colliery and region have a long, rich heritage.

“With our auctions and events at this new site, we look forward to becoming part of the Maltby community, contributing to the local economy and industrial spirit.”

Founded in Canada in 1958, Ritchie Bros moved to Europe in 1987, holding its first European auction in the UK.

“We've outgrown our site in Donington Park,” continued Mr Craven.

“The new Maltby site will be better equipped for future growth and will have great additional advantages for our customers.”

The first Ritchie Bros. auction in Maltby will be held on February 26.
