New era for education as Rotherham uni centre opens
UCR students are welcomed by Jana Checkley, RNN director of higher education, and Cllr Chris Read, Rotherham Borough Council leader 184332-1

UNIVERSITY Centre Rotherham welcomed its first students today (Monday) as the £10.5 million higher education base opened for the new academic year.

UCR — at the former Doncaster Gate Hospital site — is operated by RNN Group, which also runs Rotherham College and Dearne Valley College.

There are 32 courses on offer to begin with, which RNN hopes to expand to 50 by 2020. The target is to attract 1,000 students in the first five years.

John Connolly, the company’s chief executive, said: “Studying at UCR means students can achieve their career aspirations without the need to live away from home or travel long distances and offers opportunities for those already in employment who want to study a degree or higher-level qualification around their work and family commitments.”
