UCR — at the former Doncaster Gate Hospital site — is operated by RNN Group, which also runs Rotherham College and Dearne Valley College.

There are 32 courses on offer to begin with, which RNN hopes to expand to 50 by 2020. The target is to attract 1,000 students in the first five years.

John Connolly, the company’s chief executive, said: “Studying at UCR means students can achieve their career aspirations without the need to live away from home or travel long distances and offers opportunities for those already in employment who want to study a degree or higher-level qualification around their work and family commitments.”
