New Covid guidelines for hospital visitors

HEALTH bosses have issued new guidelines for hospital visitors to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 — especially the emerging variant Omicron — to the most vulnerable.

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust says the new measures will “help reduce the risk of infection while still allowing patients to see their loved ones”.

People going to the hospital are advised to do a lateral flow test, at home, each day they visit and not to attend if they test positive.

All visitors must wear a face covering, unless they are exempt, and remove any coats or jackets when entering hospital wards.

Thorough hand washing and regular sanitising is recommended, especially when entering and leaving the ward.

Under the new guidance, visitors are also asked to reduce movement around the hospital and remain distanced from other visitors and patients.

Visiting times remain the same, with an afternoon and an evening time slot, and there can only be one visitor per session.

Anybody who falls under the “vulnerable” category is advised not to visit the hospital.

Helen Dobson, interim chief nurse at the trust, said: “We want to do everything in our power to promote the safety of our patients and staff.

“These guidelines will help us to reduce the risk of infection whilst still allowing patients to see their loved ones.

“We are asking visitors to be respectful of our staff, particularly during the very busy winter season.

“Abuse and aggression towards colleagues will not be tolerated.”
