New charity shop aims to boost mental health

A MICROPUB and restaurant owner has branched out with a new venture — a charity shop aimed at boosting mental health.

The former Rotherham Hospice shop in Brinsworth has been reborn as Shop In 23 — a play on the address on Brinsworth Lane and the name of owner Kevin Edwards’ nearby alehouse Stop Inn Time.

Shop manager Jeanette Wistow Smith said: “The shop was run by the Rotherham Hospice for six years, before it closed its doors due to rental increases.

“The volunteers were very upset as for some the shop is a lifeline and the  community were up in arms regarding the closure and wanted to do a petition as they felt so strongly.

“Kevin came to me and we have worked together to bring the shop back to life, so the volunteers and the community have their hub back.”

The Brinsworth Lane shop, which was opened on Monday by Brinsworth councillor Adam Carter, with the full name “Shop in 23 supporting MIND”, with all profits to go to the mental health charity.
