New cancer support group launched today

A HEALTH and well-being support group has been set up to help women who are recovering from cancer.

Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR), in partnership with Macmillan Cancer have organised the event today, from 4pm until 6.30pm at the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall in Maltby.

At the event, volunteers with experience of cancer, either through personal diagnosis or caring for somebody, will offer emotional support on a one-to-one basis, advice on benefits and financial support, diet and lifestyle, getting back to work and signposting to other services in the area.

Pam Briggs of VAR, who is heading  the project, said: “After attending sessions, women report feeling better-informed and supported.

“Hopefully, they will have increased self-confidence, feel less stigmatised and be better equipped to again take up the challenges of everyday life.”
