New arrest in Mexborough murder case

DETECTIVES have arrested another man in connection with the fatal shooting of Lewis Williams at Mexborough.

A 54-year-old man from Rotherham was in police custody last night (Tuesday) on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

Mr Williams died on Wath Road on the afternoon of January 11.

On Saturday, Ryan Nisbet (20) ,of Springwood Road, Barnsley, was charged with murder. He is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court this morning.

A police spokesperson added: “A 20-year old man from Doncaster who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday has been bailed pending further enquiries.

“A 49-year-old man from Doncaster also arrested on Friday, on suspicion of assisting an offender and possession of ammunition, has been bailed pending further enquiries.

“A 32-year-old man from Doncaster, and a 22-year-old man from Rotherham, remain on police bail while enquiries continue. Two other men, both aged 20, also remain on bail as part of the investigation.”

Teen boys aged 16 and 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons, face murder charges and remain in police custody.
