The 100-metre tall structure will generate energy for the new Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Centre, currently under construction after The Queen performed the sod-cutting in December.

The length of the three blades was extended to 56 metres, four more than when the plans were first approved in 2010.

Planning documents said: “It is considered that, by way of renewable energy to be generated, the reduction in CO2 emissions, and the benefits associated with reduction in global warming and combating climate change, the development is acceptable.

“It is also considered that, by way of its size, design and location and the character of the surrounding area, the increased diameter will not have a materially adverse effect on the landscape character and visual amenities of the area.”

Three wind turbines have been erected at the AMP in Catcliffe since 2007. The first two were 56 metres tall and the third was 86 metres.
