Neighbours' horror at window-smashing youths on the rampage in Edlington

YOBS throwing stones, breaking glass windows and acting like “wild animals” — that’s what residents in one village say they have to put up with.

A video has been shared online showing four youths wrecking a boarded up property on Prince’s Crescent in Edlington.

They can be seen ripping boards off disused housing, throwing rocks at windows, smashing a front door and leaving a trail of shattered glass in their wake.

Ryan McChristie (65), of King’s Crescent in Edlington, said he had been “frightened” to see the clip of the youths at one of the houses on Prince’s Crescent.

“It was just so ghastly to see what they were doing.

“They could have seriously hurt themselves by doing this.

“The house was completely destroyed.

“No one was in the house but that is not the point.

“It’s causing us a lot of unrest and isn’t acceptable.”

Sheema Khan (70), who lives on King’s Crescent, said she believed the youths were bored but this was not justification.

She said: “It’s beyond a joke how these feral kids are allowed to do this.

“They must have nothing better to do and think it’s funny to break windows and cause misery to people around the estate.

“They need to be stopped from doing it again.”

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “What these kids have done is absolutely appalling.

“It is reckless, foolish and irresponsible to think it’s clever to attack someone’s home in that way.

“It doesn’t matter that no-one was in the house.

“It makes us feel intimidated and downright scared.

“How are these kids going to learn right from wrong when they think this is acceptable behaviour?”

South Yorkshire Police have been approached for a comment about the incident, which happened at about 8.40pm on May 14.
