Mystery of 'numb' man's collapse in street

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 28-year-old man who collapsed in the middle of a busy commuter route.

The pedestrian staggered into Rotherham Road, Parkgate, before falling to the floor, at around 6.30pm on Wednesday evening.

But police want to know what caused the incident which led to a short closure of the stretch between Parkgate Shopping and Great Eastern Way.

A police spokeswoman said: “It’s a mystery how this man came to collapse in the street.

“A bus that was passing at the time of the incident stopped nearby, but the driver was not aware that he had struck the man.”

The pedestrian, who complained of feeling numb from the waist down, was taken to Rotherham General Hospital but was later released.

There were no injuries to indicate that he had been struck by a vehicle.
