POLICE have named the 42-year-old man who was killed after he stepped into the busy southbound carriageway of the M18 motorway.

Adrian Gavin Wedge, from Mansfield, died shortly after the incident which happened around half a mile from the M18's junction with the M1 motorway, at around 7am on October 17.

Following the incident a police spokesman said: "It was reported to the police that the man parked his blue Toyota Corolla on the hard shoulder of the southbound carriageway, got out of his car and stepped into the path of a lorry travelling in the first lane. He was then hit by a second vehicle.

"The collision happened about half a mile prior to  junction 32 of the M1 at

Rotherham and involved a green Scania heavy goods vehicle. The second

vehicle involved was a black Honda Stream people carrier."

Police closed the road for more than eight hours following the incident to carry out detailed investigations into the circumstances of the incident.

The road was eventually re-opened at around 3.20pm.
