Music, food and fun at Clifton Meadows open day

RESIDENTS at a care home sampled food from around the world and were entertained by a singer at an open day.

Around 70 people, including family members, attended the open day at Clifton Meadows Care Home last Saturday last week.

The event was held on National Care Home Open Day when care homes around the UK threw open their doors to the public.

Resident George Robertson (87) held an exhibition of artworks he has created while living at the home.

The former footballer, who played football for Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster Rovers in the 1950s, has delighted staff with his artwork, which includes dramatic pictures of rolling seas.

There was a performance from singer and musician Ruth Strangeway and a buffet featuring food from around the world including Mexican chicken and samosas.

There was also a visit from the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Eve Rose Keenan, and a cake sale was held.

Residents said thank you to people who supported them by awarding them Dignity Champion certificates.

A total of 13 people received the awards including members of staff, the care home's chiropodist, its hairdresser and Cllr Keenan.

The care home will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its group, Anchor Care Homes, later this year.
