Music festival ready to rock Rotherham

A MULTI-venue music festival is set to send Rotherham rocking next month.

Clifton Park bandstand, All Saints’ Square and the myplace youth centre will all play host to a range of bands and musicians during the last week in July as part of Slamfest.

The brainchild of promoters Mick Hill and Richard Millard, the week-long event will also see performers in action at Rotherham Trades Club, which will host an Indie Stage, the Crinoline Bridge Inn (punk rock), the X-Change pub (folk and acoustic), the High House (rock and acoustic) and the Charter Arms (metal).

Mick said:  “We have formed an organisation called Rotherham Art Events (RAE) and want to support artistes from the grassroots to the finished article.

“We aim to give bands and musicians the opportunity to showcase their talent to a wider audience by playing festivals as just playing pubs seems to be a limited audience these days.

“The festival is solely funded by sponsorship and local business and a lot of hard work from the team until further grants are in place.

“Nearly all the bands are Rotherham or South Yorkshire-based and this will give them a great opportunity to play in front of a big crowd and a different wider audience.”
