Murder arrest after woman dies following Rotherham underpass incident

A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman died following a cardiac arrest in an underpass.

Emergency services were called to Drummond Street in Rotherham town centre shortly before 8pm yesterday (Wednesday).

The woman, in her 30s, had apparently suffered a cardiac arrest. She died later in hospital.

A police spokesperson said: “A Rotherham man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and murder and is currently in police custody.

“A cordon is in place around the underpass and is expected to remain there for most of today, to allow officers to carry out their enquiries.

“A forensic postmortem examination will take place in the coming days and detectives are treating the death as suspicious.”
