South Yorkshire Police’s cold case review team are being urged by relatives of Glynn Bower (20), to look at the file on his death in the hope they may find a new lead.

Glynn, from Rotherham, went missing on a night out in Rotherham town centre in November 2002.

His body was discovered eight weeks later in the River Don at Denaby, five miles downstream.

Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Glynn’s death and interviewed hundreds of people, initially treating it as suspicious.

Nobody was ever charged and the case was handed to Rotherham coroner’s court for an inquest which recorded an open verdict.

But relatives believe that there was something sinister in his death and put up a £10,000 reward for information.

Last Sunday was the anniversary of Glynn going missing and it has been a hard week for the family.

“It was his nan’s 65th birthday the same day that he went missing and when he didn't turn up for her party we knew something was wrong," said Glynn's mother, Susan Longden.

“On Wednesday it was my daughter Annie’s 16th birthday. So it has been hard. I still feel it's not really happened to me. We just want some sort of closure."

Det Supt Richard Fewkes said “South Yorkshire Police always responds to new information, but we have not been made aware of anything that would justify reopening the case. If any new evidence does surface though, we will take this forward.”
