Mugger leaves elderly victim with fractured shoulder

AN 85-year-old woman suffered a broken shoulder when a thief snatched her handbag as she walked into Rotherham with her daughter.

The pensioner was walking arm-in-arm with her 60-year-old daughter in st Ann's subway, when the man, believed to be in his 20s, approached them from behind and grabbed the bag at around 3pm on Saturday.

Both women fell to the ground as the man dashed away  and the younger victim suffered a cut on her forehead.

A police spokeswoman said:  “A man in his mid 20s has been arrested in connection with the incident, and is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.”
