MP Sir Kevin Barron joins protests over Treeton homes plan

SIR Kevin Barron called for transport improvements and more school places ahead of housing developments in Treeton.

The Rother Valley MP attended a packed meeting at the village’s community centre to discuss plans for 94 properties off Wood Lane.

Sir Kevin (pictured above, addressing the meeting) said: “Whilst I recognise the national shortage of houses, they cannot just be  built without investing in the local infrastructure beforehand.

“During my meeting with Treeton residents, they explained there is already a vast shortage of school places in the village even before these houses are built.

“The level of traffic on Wood Lane is also a major issue. I am glad that these issues have been raised by the parish council.”

Jones Homes has submitted proposals for houses on the 3.14-hectare site, which was taken out of the greenbelt this summer.

Treeton Parish Council has noted that the timing of the submission came soon after the protected status was removed, saying the plan would likely have been turned down before.

A spokesman added: “The additional houses could add another 150 cars to the already congested road through the village.”

Jones Homes said the development would be in keeping with the village and the entrance feature pit wheel would be improved.
