MP Sarah Champion calls for more new homes

ROTHERHAM MP Sarah Champion has urged the Government to build more affordable homes.

Just over 92,000 houses were built in 2012, compared with 108,490 the previous year, National House Building Council figures reveal.

Ms Champion said the shortage was failing to give young people a fair chance of getting on to the property ladder.

She added: “Where are all the new homes for people to buy? The Government’s schemes mean that more people will be trying to buy the same number of houses.

“It is important now that we see an increase in the number being built. We need to get many more young people into home ownership and to increase the supply of good quality, good value new homes.”
