MP John Healey's dismay at sudden closure of Rawmarsh post office

MP JOHN Healey has told of his anger after a Rawmarsh post office was closed suddenly — and vowed to fight for it to reopen.

Thorogate Post Office in Rawmarsh shut last Friday, having previously moved into Day Lewis Pharmacy.

Mr Healey, who campaigned to save the branch in 2016, said: “I was dismayed by the decision and hasty implementation.

“I worked hard with residents and the local pharmacy to keep the branch open when it was previously threatened with closure in 2016.

“The post office is highly valued by local Rawmarsh residents and may rely heavily on its services.

“I am very disappointed that no account has been taken of their views, and that neither they nor I were told the company was again considering closing the post office.

“I have written to the pharmacy owners, Day Lewis, and the Post Office urging them to put a stop to this closure, while they consider other options or work with me to try to find an alternative site so Thorogate’s Post Office is not lost for good.”

The Post Office has been contacted for comment.
