The Wentworth and Dearne MP volunteered at the Rawmarsh vaccine centre, where 1,000 people were given the jab in two days.

During his day of volunteering, Mr Healey said, his duties had included meeting people, explaining what would happen, checking names against appointments and making sure people had wheelchairs if needed.

The MP added: “I was proud to join the volunteers who put in a full day, making sure it went smoothly and people were seen quickly.

“They’re doing this because they know how important the vaccine is to protect the vulnerable and beat the virus.

“I want to thank all the NHS staff doing this on top of their usual jobs and making these vaccination sessions possible.”

Mr Healey said he intended to volunteer at more sites within the constituency soon.

He also urged people to wait for the NHS to contact them - and when they do, to have the vaccine to protect themselves.

Mr Healey added that more volunteers were needed and asked for people’s help to sign up to volunteer.
