MP encourages more blood donors

JOHN Healey is to give blood to raise awareness of the need for others to do the same.

The Wentworth and Dearne MP made it his New Year’s resolution to become a regular donor.

He said: “Giving blood is simple for the donor but life-changing for the patient who receives it.”

Mr Healey, a former shadow health secretary, will donate at Parkgate Retail Park on Friday.

The National Blood Service expect 2012 to be a challenging year for blood reserves because of the extra bank holiday and bumper sporting calendar, including the Olympics.
