Motorists warned of M1 overnight closure this week

MOTORISTS using the motorway network through Rotherham this week are being warned of several nights of roadworks, including the overnight closure of the southbound motorway.

The southbound M1 will be fully closed overnight for three nights from Wednesday between junction 33 Catcliffe and junction 31 Aston for carriageway repairs.

This closure also includes the closure of the M1 southbound to M18 northbound link and the M18 southbound link to M1 southbound.

The southbound exit slip road of the M1 at junction 35 Thorpe Hesley will be fully closed overnight for five nights from tonight (Monday, September 3).

The southbound entry slip road at the same junction will be fully closed overnight for two nights from tonight.

Both closures are for carriageway repairs.

There will also be technology works on the northbound entry slip road on Thursday night.

Highways England said all the closures would be in force between 8pm and 6am, and drivers would be able to follow clearly signed diversion routes.

The northbound carriageway of the A631 Tinsley Viaduct remains closed until November for maintenance work.

The round-the-clock closure means drivers will be diverted on to the service road and HGV drivers will be directed onto a signed diversion route.
