Motorist at court accused of killing front seat passenger

A MOTORIST has appeared at court accused of causing the death of a front seat passenger just days before Christmas.

Thomas Edgar (27), of Fern Court, Sunnyside, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday accused of causing the death of Jason Maxfield by driving without due care and attention.

Mr Maxfield (31) was a front seat passenger in a Volkswagen Polo which crashed on Bawtry Road, Brecks, at about 10.50pm on December 21 last year.

He was taken to Rotherham Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Edgar is accused of driving the car with 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath — more than twice the drink-drive limit.

He did not enter a plea to either charge and was released on bail to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on December 1.
