Motorist (24) arrested after boy (11) suffers life-threatening injuries in Wincobank collision

A MAN has been arrested for drink and drug-driving offences after a collision in Wincobank left an 11-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries.

A grey Toyota Avensis collided with the boy on Jenkin Road at about 3.30pm yesterday (Tuesday), a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said.

"The boy was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries where he remains in a serious condition," she added.

"The driver of the Toyota, a 24-year-old man from Sheffield, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

"He was later released under investigation."

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision.

Anyone with information about the collision should call 101, quoting incident number 509 of September 24.
