More than 250 jobs under threat at Rotherham car parts plant

MORE than 250 jobs are under threat at a Rotherham car parts plant after their company bosses announced they were axing their UK operations.

Workers at Toyoda Gosei UK’s factory in Templeborough are in consultation over the proposal to shut their plant and one in Swansea, with 251 jobs set to be axed in Rotherham and 207 in South Wales.

Toyoda Gosei said the proposal was “in response to continued changes in the global automotive sector, and a significant reduction in key UK customer demand”.

Shigenori Matsuo, TGUK’s managing director, said: “We understand and regret the uncertainty that this will cause for everyone at the Swansea and Rotherham sites and are doing all we can to support our employees throughout the consultation process.”

Toyoda Gosei, which has sites in 65 countries, has run its Rotherham branch since 1999.
