More coronavirus deaths in Rotherham

ROTHERHAM Hospital has seen another eight coronavirus deaths within the last week.

A spokesperson for The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said as of Wednesday morning, hospital staff were treating 59 inpatients who have tested positive for the virus — the same number as last week — three of whom were in critical care.

To date 618 patients have died from the virus — up eight from the previous week — while 2,902 patients have been treated at the hospital for Covid-19 and 2,131 have been discharged.

Rotherham’s infection rate has also risen again within the past week, at 417 per 100,000 people as of last Thursday — above the UK average of 334.4. 

The borough’s drive to vaccinate residents is also continuing well, with 182,000 eligible people having received their first dose and of that number, 167,000 have had their second dose.
