A MAN who died in a fatal collision on the M1 on Friday has been named as Jason Mercer.

Mr Mercer (44), of Moorgate, was one of two men who died in a three-vehicle collision on the northbound carriageway of the M1 at 8.30am on Friday involving a silver Ford Focus, a silver Ford transit van and a lorry.

Police said Mr Mercer’s family had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.

A 39-year-old man from Hull was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail pending further enquiries, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers are asking anyone who saw what happened, or who may have dash cam footage, to contact them.

Contact South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident 196 of June 7.
