Minute's silence for MP Jo Cox at Orgreave march

CAMPAIGNERS held a minute’s silence to murdered MP Jo Cox at a rally to mark the 32nd anniversary of the Battle of Orgreave.

Ex-miners marched and gave speeches at the Winter Green in Waverley — the site of the notorious 1984 confrontation — on Saturday, with fresh hope this year that it may soon be subject to an official inquiry.

Members of the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign gathered at the spot where miners and police clashed to listen to speeches from Hillsborough justice campaigner Margaret Aspinall, ex-miner Kevin Horne — who was arrested at the Battle — and NUM general secretary Chris Skidmore.

Home secretary Theresa May is under pressure to announce whether an Orgreave inquiry will be held following the Hillsborough inquest verdicts.
