Minstrel Mike makes it a record

A WANDERING minstrel proved himself a Red Nose Day record breaker when he clocked up 41 performances in a single day.

Starting at 8am, plucky performer Mike the Minstrel spent Friday touring the Dearne Valley serenading shoppers and entertaining customers at chippies, theatres and even a car showroom.

He was out to raise as much as possible for Comic Relief and set a world record for performing at the highest number of venues in a day.

Highlights included performances at Thurnscoe Health Centre, where the staff collected all day, Barnsley’s Lamproom Theatre, where he opened the show for comedian Toby Foster, and two chip shops in Thurnscoe.

He said: “I'm so happy to have finally completed it, I have aching feet and a sore throat but it was all worth it to finally get the world record and raise so much money for Comic Relief.

It was also good practice for Mother’s Day when I’m expecting to spend the whole day travelling around, singing special Mother’s Day greetings.“I would like to thank everyone who helped and donated on the day.”
