Minstrel Mike aiming for Red Nose record

A WANDERING minstrel is hoping to sing his way to a world record with the most individual performances in a single day for this year’s Comic Relief.

Mike Collins, of Thurnscoe, will tour his home town from 8am until noon tomorrow followed by Barnsley town centre from 2pm until 5pm in full costume singing and playing his infamous acoustic guitar.

He will return to Thurnscoe from 6pm until 9pm before ending his challenge at the New Inn in Gawber.

From shops and doctors surgeries, to care homes and car showrooms, Mike will try and beat the record which is currently set at 40 individual performances in separate venues in a single day.

This is Mike’s second attempt at the challenge which he first tried in 1982 and did perform at 40 venues.

Officials said that he did not have the correct paperwork to prove his record was valid which is why he is back for a second attempt.
