Millers ready for final warm-up

ROTHERHAM United manager Paul Warne is pleased with how his first pre-season as manager has played out as he prepares his troops for battle in their final warm-up match.

The Millers head into Saturday’s home clash with Barnsley in fine fettle having won seven of the eight pre-season games, their only defeat coming against Sheffield United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium last week.

Looking back, boss Warne is pleased with how the pre-season schedule has unfolded, and is in confident mood as the countdown to the August 5 opener at Fleetwood gathers pace.

“We’ve come through pre-season pretty unscathed,” Warne told the Advertiser.

“The only one we have in the injury room is Alex Bray, we’re trying to build his quad up because it got fatigued again so we’re trying to break him a little bit to build him back up.

“In that respect, the lads have all got minutes in, we had the game at North Ferriby and topped up Fordy (Anthony Forde) and Ryan WIlliams,Woody (Richard Wood) and Aimen Belaid, so in that respect, they’ve all got enough minutes to start the season.

“They’ve trained really well. I’m all about the team spirit and camaraderie, and I think they’re a pretty close group, which is essential if you’re trying to be successful.”
