Millers fan charged over racist abuse at New York stadium

A ROTHERHAM United fan accused of chanting racist abuse at a match is facing a court appearance.

Police arrested the 21-year-old from Maltby after Millers officials handed over his details following a 4-0 victory over Yorkshire rivals Bradford City at the New York Stadium on September 1.

Now the man has been charged with racist chanting.

A police spokesman said: “The man is due to appear at Rotherham Magistrates Court later this month.”

After the match a club spokesman said: “The club would like to emphasise that we operate has a zero tolerance policy on discrimination of any sort.

“Anyone found to be in breach of this rule will receive a lifetime banning order.

“While we hope this is an isolated incident anyone wishing to anonymously report discrimination or inappropriate behaviour.”
