Millers faithful hail promotion heroes

A SPIRIT of celebration overwhelmed Rotherham last night as the Mighty Millers painted the town red on their promotion parade.

More than 2,000 Rotherham United faithful packed into All Saints' Square to cheer on the football heroes who secured promotion to League One with Saturday’s 2-0 win over Aldershot at the New York Stadium.

The event rounded off a dream first season at the club’s new home and gave fans a chance to get up close to their idols.

Ecstatic fan Linda Watley (54), from Thrybergh, said: “It’s great to celebrate promotion at last. It was so tense on Saturday that I hardly got the chance to enjoy it.”

Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart joined manager Steve Evans and players for the open top bus parade which travelled from the New York Stadium to All Saints Square last night.

Among those in the crowd was Rotherham’s World Cup Final referee Howard Webb, he said: “It’s absolutely fantastic.”
