Millers crowd trouble — six arrests

SIX people have been arrested by police investigating crowd trouble at Rotherham United’s clash with Millwall earlier this season.

Detectives arrested the suspects — four from London and two from Rotherham — in a two-day operation last Wednesday and Thursday and bailed them all pending further  enquiries.

The joint investigation by South Yorkshire Police and the Metropolitan Police Service was launched after trouble at the Championship match at the New York Stadium on February 28.

A 43-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy from Rotherham were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of violent disorder and released on police bail.

The following day, Metropolitan Police officers arrested four men aged betweeen 16 and 47 on the same charge and bailed them.

Trouble at the match saw fans from both sides attempting to cross the netting between the south stand and the east and west stands.

Several stewards were reportedly attacked, leading to extra police resources being deployed to restore order.
